Understanding the Metrics Displayed
The dashboard provides metrics in a table format with the following columns:
Name: Displays the name of the business for which return rates are being tracked.
Return Metrics
- Unauthorized Return: Number of unauthorized returns, typically due to a customer disputing a transaction.
- Administrative Return: Number of returns due to administrative errors, such as incorrect account details.
- Other Return: Number of returns for reasons other than unauthorized or administrative causes.
- Total Return: Sum of all returns (unauthorized, administrative, and other).
- Total Origination: Total number of ACH transactions initiated by the business.
Return Rate Calculations
- Unauthorized Return Rate: Percentage of unauthorized returns relative to total transactions.
- Administrative Return Rate: Percentage of administrative returns relative to total transactions.
- Total Return Rate: Percentage of total returns relative to total transactions.
How to Interpret Return Rates
- High Unauthorized Return Rates: May indicate potential compliance issues or fraudulent activity. These should be monitored closely to ensure adherence to NACHA regulations.
- Administrative Return Rates: High rates may signal data entry errors or process issues within the originator’s systems, requiring a review of input protocols.
- Total Return Rate: Provides a comprehensive view of all return types, offering a high-level metric for overall transaction quality.
Additional Features
- Columns & Density: Use the Columns and Density settings to adjust visible columns and the table's density for easier reading.
- Search Bar: Utilize the search bar to quickly find a specific business by name.
- Pagination: Navigate through pages using the arrows at the bottom right corner of the table if more than one page of results is available.
Compliance & Monitoring
- Ensure regular monitoring of return rates to maintain compliance with NACHA regulations. If a return rate exceeds the acceptable threshold set by NACHA, investigate the root cause and take corrective action.
Best Practices
- Set realistic date ranges to ensure performance is optimal and results are relevant.
- Regularly review the data to identify trends and take proactive measures to minimize return rates.
- For financial institutions managing multiple businesses, use the product filter to focus on specific ACH services or product lines.
